The CPHS Band email distribution is the primary mechanism to distribute information to parents and staff. The weekly announcements as well the the Howler are posted on the web site and an email notice is sent to the list to inform subscribers of the new changes. The email list is also an effective mechanism to communicate with all the band parents.

A list serve or discussion group is a convenient way for groups to communicate. Traditional e-mail is ideal for one-on-one interactions. A list serve has taken the concept a step further by disseminating a single message to a group simultaneously. The advantage is that everyone that is a member of the list serve has the ability to communicate with ALL the other members without the need to create and maintain a personal distribution list. The distribution list is maintained centrally, and in most cases, administered automatically.
The CPHS Band list serve is classified as restricted. This means that membership to the list requires the approval of the list's owner. The band director policy is to only allow band and guard parents and the CPHS band staff to join. Only list serve members can post and will receive messages from the list serve.
Joining the CPHS Band list serve is easy but there are several safeguards in place. Enter your email address and full name in the mail list management page. The request is then sent to the list owner for approval. If the list owner doesn't recognize your name and email address from the school band registration information, an email message will be sent to you to confirm that you are a CPHS band parent. After final approval is granted by the list owner, you will receive an email message welcoming you to the CPHS Band list serve. This message contains instructions on how to post messages, unsubscribe from the list serve and read the list serve's archived messages.

You can also make such adjustments via email by sending a message to list-request@cphsband.org with the word `help' in the subject or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back an automated message with instructions.

Who owns and pays the web site and email list? The cphsband.org web site and email list is registered to and managed by the "webmaster". Hosting and registration costs are paid by individual booster donations.
Sometimes it takes a long time for the email to go through. Why? Virus outbreaks on the internet can sometimes slow email delivery due to heavy traffic. Also the email list may be "moderated" which means the list moderators must approve list email before forwarding to the list. The list-owner has the sole right to enable or disable moderation for the list or individuals at any time.
