Selection into this group is by audition, director recommendation, and demonstration of academic proficiency. Members in this ensemble participate in the TMEA Region Band process, UIL Marching Contest, UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, and UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest. Members of this group have two 1.5 hour section rehearsals each week and an assigned hearing time outside of the school day. Additional rehearsals are scheduled as needed. The Wind Ensemble gives numerous performances both on and off campus. In UIL activities, this group is designated as the “Varsity” band.

Members of the Symphonic Band participate in the TMEA Region Band process. Members of this group have two 1.5 hour section rehearsals each week and an assigned hearing time outside of the school day. These groups give a variety of performances. In UIL activities, these groups are designated as the “Non-Varsity” and “Sub Non-Varsity” bands.
Students in the band program are placed in a concert ensemble by audition, as well as observation throughout the year. The second semester placement includes the progress of students in the Hearing Time process.
